About Medifarma

Medifarma is a pharmaceutical company located in Peru and focuses on the development, manufacture and sale of generic medications. Since its founding in 1964, it has grown steadily and currently has six manufacturing plants worldwide. It is considered as one of the leading laboratories in the Peruvian market, with a strong presence internationally.

The firm's warehouse in Lima (Peru) did not provide enough storage capacity to meet its logistical requirements or the increased sales achieved in recent years. Determined to resolve this situation, Medifarma requested the collaboration of Mecalux to gain greater racking capacity for products. The system implemented would enable it to supply its customers, worry-free and far into the future.

Clad-rack warehouse

After analysing the requirements presented by Medifarma, Mecalux proposed the construction of a new self-supporting warehouse. This 475 m2 extension is 16 m high and can accommodate 780 pallets weighing up to 1,000 kg.

Clad-rack warehouses are formed by racks that support their own weight, the stored commodity, as well as the lateral and roof cladding. This construction optimises the surface and height available so that only the space strictly necessary is leveraged.

Agile operations
The warehouse is equipped with the semi-automatic Pallet Shuttle system. This solution fulfills Medifarma's expectations of furnishing both increased storage capacity and agility to handle goods. Operators do not enter the aisles, they simply place the motorised shuttle into the channel, deposit the pallets into the first position of the racks and then the Pallet Shuttle autonomously transfers them directly to the first free location. The same operation is carried out, but in reverse, to remove the merchandise.

The Pallet Shuttle is equipped with various electronic and mechanical components to ensure proper operations and safe transport within the lanes.

Advantages for Medifarma

  • Bigger, better capacity: with the 780 pallet expansion of the Medifarma warehouse, the company has increased storage capacity in a limited space of pallet loads weighing up to 1,000 kg each.
  • Augmented productivity: the combination of the Pallet Shuttle system with live channels streamlines storage tasks and minimises manoeuvres for the insertion and removal of pallets from their locations.
