Needs and the solution

Cárnica Batallé is a family business that is known for its innovation and development of production processes in the pursuit of providing the best quality products.

To optimise the operation of the frozen storage chamber, which is maintained at -25 °C and where ready to be sold consumer goods are kept, Cárnica Batallé sought out the advice of Mecalux.

After analysing the needs and business dealings of the company, Mecalux has equipped the frozen storage chamber with 16 double-deep Movirack mobile racks and four stationary ones, all 10 m high and 20 m long.

Overall, this means a storage capacity of over 3,900 pallets with a maximum weight of 1,000 kg each. In addition, ­there are two working aisles where operators manoeuvre reach trucks.

Movirack mobile racking

This is a high-density system that works via a single aisle and, also, provides direct access to all SKUs when the operator, using a remote-control device, orders the aisle to open.

Then, the mobile pallet racks displace laterally and autonomously on the rails.

The system is equipped with several safety devices that protect the operators and the stored goods:

• External sensors that stop everything in motion if a person enters the aisle.
• Internal sensors that detect the presence of objects inside the aisle, preventing the proper operation of the system.
• Emergency mushroom stop buttons in onboard cabinets that halt the racks from moving due to any incident.
• Proximity sensors ensure a safe and gentle stop.
