Mecalux is selected by Alcorta Forging Group to install an automated warehouse for pallets

21 Nov 2017

Mecalux will provide an automated warehouse with a capacity of more than 1,100 pallets to the Alcorta Forging Group, an ironworks development and manufacturing business that supplies the automobile sector. This automated project is meant to improve the logistics efficiency of the warehouse the company has in its plant in Elgoibar (Guipúzcoa).

The automated warehouse will be 13 m high, 54 m long and will consist of two single-depth aisles. Each aisle will be accessed by a twin-mast stacker crane, which will be in charge of moving the pallets from the entry and exit points to the location assigned by the warehouse management software. The installation will have input and output stations for the goods, both in the front of the warehouse and on the side. These side stations will connect to the docking area, while those in the conveyor area will follow suit with the production centre

The automation of logistics processes will let Alcorta Forging Group enhance productivity, minimise errors and reduce costs. This warehouse solution will also include the Easy WMS warehouse management system by Mecalux, whose job is to control and coordinate operations in the automated warehouse efficiently.

Alcorta Forging Group is a centenary industrial engineering company working in the metallurgic sector. Its headquarters is based in Elgoibar (Basque Country) and it is also present in Germany, France, Czechia, South Africa, China and the United States. Since the 1980s, it has focused on motor parts and, these days, has become one of the most well-known companies in the automotive sector.
