High storage capacity at Iron Mountain

04 Oct 2016

Iron Mountain, a specialist in document custody and management, has renewed its confidence in Mecalux by constructing a 10 m high warehouse with a storage capacity of 3 million filing boxes.

The new building, near Paris, consists of two 6,000 m² blocks each of which stores 95 mm x 257 mm x 360 mm files and 362 mm x 296 mm x 532 mm boxes. The installed racks have gangways to access the top three levels.

In 2015, Mecalux had already equipped the Recall society warehouse, recently acquired by Iron Mountain. In this warehouse, located near the town of Chartres, three 24 m high stacker cranes operate. Each crane has an on-board cabinet and is responsible for storing the large number of boxes kept there. This high-rise facility is characterised by high-density storage, more specifically, a million available locations.

With this system, picking operations are greatly simplified since the stacker crane is automatically positioned at the level required by the operator. Route optimisation significantly increases overall performance thanks to the rapid access to the articles.
